Compare with other recumbent exercise bikes

With so many exercise bikes around these days, manufacturers have been coming up with newer and more interesting ways to make their bikes stand out from the crowd. One of the best ways of doing this has been to address common issues that plague typical exercise bikes and deter many potential users from getting one. The two features that the Exerpeutic 400XL address most notably lie in its improved ergonomics and space-efficiency. We’ll get into more details on these enhancements later on in the review but, first, let’s look at some basic facts about this model.

Comfort and Ease of Use

Despite its lightweight and foldable design, the 400XL is sturdy and well built to handle the rigors of an intense workout without shaking excessively or being otherwise uncomfortable during normal use. The ergonomic recumbent seat design does well at reducing pressure on the lower back and other trouble spots that frequently ache during long workout sessions on other machines – making it perfect for users prone to troublesome aches and pains.400XL seat

This recumbent bike provides a smooth ride with very little noise and almost no shaking during even the most vigorous workouts. This, combined with its optimized seat design, makes it suitable for users of all ages and with any of a wide variety of health conditions that make regular exercise bikes unacceptable.

When it comes to ease of use, this model is pretty average in this department. It provides an LCD screen with simple controls that are similar to those used on other comparable devices. Users already familiar with other exercise bikes will know exactly how to get around the various options and new users shouldn’t have too much trouble finding their way around the intuitive controls either.

Product Specifications and Features

  • Maximum Capacity: 300 pounds
  • Product Weight: 39lbs
  • Product Dimensions: 33” x 19” x 46”

The Exerpeutic 400XL’s most noticeable features lie in its ergonomics and the storage and portability enhancements built into the design. Like quite a few modern exercise bikes, this model is designed with a horizontally adjustable semi-reclined seat that allows for better body positioning during workouts and reduces back pain and risks of injury. This feature makes the 400XL suitable for users that find regular exercise bikes too uncomfortable as well as those with pre-existing conditions, such as back-pain or undergoing rehabilitation, that might make proper body positioning and minimizing pressure on certain areas a top priority.

As far as portability, the Exerpeutic 400XL comes fitted with wheels that make moving it around quite easy. It doesn’t hurt that – at 39 pounds – it’s less than half the weight of some of its peers. When combined with its compact foldable design, it makes for a bike that can be easily packed up and tucked away under a bed or in a closet with much more easy than you would with a typical exercise bike with twice the weight and none of the “foldability”. Now while some might not find this feature useful, it’s certainly a deal-maker for those that live in small apartments or simply want the bike out of sight when not in use.400XL lcd

This model also comes with some of the more obvious features you would expect any decent recumbent bike to have, such as 8 resistance levels, which is the same that you’ll find on the popular Marcy Recumbent Bike, and is enough to provide a decent range of options for users of all fitness levels. On its LCD display you’ll be able to keep track of your fitness related data such as speed, distance travelled, heart rate, and calories burned during the workout. This makes it quite easy to use a trial and error approach to quickly determine optimal workout intensity for user specific goals.

One other useful feature – especially if you like to be entertained while you exercise – is the double-drive transmission and balanced flywheel. While this might not make a lot of sense to the average reader, it essentially means that this bike provides one of the smoothest and most silent workouts possible on an exercise bike – which is perfect for watching TV or talking on the phone while you ride without being disturbed by noisy pedaling sounds. Additionally, since it doesn’t have a big monitor on the way, users will be able to enjoy a movie or watch the kids while working out on the 400XL.

Assembly

Assembling the bike is pretty straight-forward – especially when compared to similar recumbent bikes. Most users will have it done within an hour and some have even managed to get it done in just fifteen minutes – definitely better than many models that can keep you busy for hours and give you a full workout just trying to put them together. Personally, while I’m not very skilled when it comes to assembling things, it took me just 30 minutes to put this bike together thanks to the clear instructions.

Drawbacks

While this is a very good model for such an affordable price, as shown by its outstanding 4.5/5 rating, it is worth mentioning that the taller users might find it a little bit too cramped and small for their liking. Now this isn’t a universal opinion by any means but it’s definitely something to think about if you’re taller than six feet and two inches or so and thinking of buying an exercise bike to complement (or start) a personal fitness regimen. Another bike with more room might be more appropriate for such users but the 400XL’s relatively small size should be a non-issue for most everyone else.Exerpeutic 400XL bike

Conclusion

The Exerpeutic 400XL is designed with portability and space efficiency in mind and does a good job in both of these areas. Its foldable design makes it easy to pack up and put under a bed or stash in a closet and the wheels make moving it around much easier than with typical exercise bikes. Also, its relatively light weight makes it quite easy to move up and down flights of stairs – usually a significant challenge with typical bikes that can easily take two or more people to accomplish safely.

Finally, the modern ergonomic recumbent seat design maximizes user comfort and virtually eliminates the back aches and other pains that can plague users of other models. Most users will definitely appreciate the effort put into making this model one of the most convenient and comfortable bikes in its class.

All in all, we really liked 400XL’s performance for such a budget-friendly and convenient recumbent bike. Indeed, thanks to its sturdiness and impressive 300 pounds maximum capacity, we definitely liked it better than the Sunny, and just as much as the Stamina InTone.
