Compare with other recumbent bikes

As you’re on the lookout for a high-end recumbent exercise bike you’re bound to stumble upon premium brands the likes of Sole Fitness and Schwinn, although there are actually lesser known fly-under-the-radar brands that equally manage to produce top of the line machines. Exerpeutic is a good example of that with its 900XL extended capacity recumbent bike.

900xlThe Exerpeutic 900XL is an entry level, very affordable bike that has a great appeal to many largely because of its solid construction and impressive 300 pounds weight capacity. So if you are looking for your first recumbent bike and planning to use it to lose those extra few pounds and build some endurance then this basic model might be ideal for you.

The best thing about this bike is its silent feature, that makes it possible to engage in other activities like listening to music or watching a movie while exercising, thus making time fly and allowing users to extend their workout time.

Assembly and parts

The Exerpeutic 900XL comes with its parts mostly pre-assembled and while the manual is very detailed and may require some amount of time to digest, the actual assembling is not difficult and may even be concluded by one person within an hour or an hour and a half. The parts are accounted for in the package and all you need to do is follow the instructions in knowing which parts go together as well as the bolts to tighten.

Ease of Use and Comfort

Now this model might not offer top-notch technology as more expensive stationary bikes, but it does not fail on offering a comfortable and low-impact workout thanks to its padded seat base and seat back. Indeed, you can rest assured that the manufacturer had your comfort interests at heart when designing the seat, since it’s quite large and adjustable, hence able to accommodate a wide array of users.

Being the Exerpeutic 900XL a very basic model makes it also quite user-friendly. Indeed, even getting on the bike is easier than with most recumbent bikes thanks to its “walk-through” design. Additionally, it comes with a clear LCD display that is easy to read and handle, and the resistance can be easily adjusted through a knob that is positioned well within reach.

Features and specifications900xl Seat

  • Step through design
  • Precision balanced flywheel
  • Handgrip heart rate sensor
  • Extended leg stabilizers
  • Weight capacity: 300lbs
  • Product dimensions: 22 x 54 x 34”
  • Product weight: 63lbs

Even though it provides a good quality build, as any low-end stationary bike this model doesn’t offer many technological features, although it still manages to offer some good ones.

The Exerpeutic 900XL features a large LCD monitor that helps you keep track of your distance covered, time consumed, heart rate reading, speed and total amount of calories burned. All of these metrics you will find useful if you are building up your endurance and strength, trying to lose weight or ensuring your heart rate hasn’t changed.

In contrast to other budget-friendly bikes, such as the Marcy NS-716R, this model still manages to offer a handgrip heart rate sensor, which is quite a nice addition especially for those that want to keep track of their heart rate, either for health requirements or to gradually increase their endurance. In fact, it is even possible to set a heart rate target!

Exerpeutic LCDAs an entry level model, this bike comes with 8 levels of magnetic resistance, which is enough to offer enough challenge for both the novice and more advanced user. At the same time, this means that you will be able to start on a low difficulty and gradually move up as your endurance increases.

This model also includes food straps, hence you can safely pedal to your limits without worrying that your feet will slip out. Its leg stabilizers ensure that the bike won’t tip over no matter the intensity of your workout. Additionally, moving the this model from one place to another is not a problem as it comes with transportation wheels that enable easy and hassle-free movement.

Lastly, its magnetic resistance makes this stationary bike very smooth and quiet, which at the same time makes it a great option for those that enjoy multi-tasking. Indeed, you will be able to listen to some music or even watch TV while working out, hence time will pass faster and you’ll be able to finish your workout before noticing. This has the added advantage of motivating users to working out more constantly, thus greatly improving your chances of achieving your fitness goals.

Drawbacks

What about the cons? We found that the seat can be hard to adjust . You probably won’t enjoy having to pull out the knobs and then putt them back together the same way you would on an outdoor bike. However, if you’re the only one that is going to use this stationary bike then the good news is that you’ll only have to do it once! On the other side, if the bike is going to be shared by people of different sizes, whom will require to adjust the seat to their own preferences, then this can become pretty annoying and certainly not something that you will enjoy.

Additionally, some users have regretted the fact that the seat can become a bit uncomfortable, especially during long workouts. However this didn’t change their opinion of the bike as they preferred to solve the problem by adding an extra cushion instead of changing of model.

Overall

The main difference between the 900XL and the most expensive bikes on the market is that they tend to offer custom routine programming. However, if you just want a comfortable and effective way to workout that will deliver results, then this model is certainly the best choice considering its amazingly affordable price and solid build.

To conclude, the 900XL certainly exceeded our expectations for such an affordable bike. Now this tells us that even small brands such as Exerpeutic can come up with quality models, and because of this we also took the time to review this brand’s folding model 400XL, which is on same price range than the 900XL and just as high-rated, but comes with the additional advantage of being space-saver.
