Compare with other rowing machines

The Kettler Favorit Rowing Machine has been especially designed for an all-body workout while maximizing fat loss on the hips, arms and thighs. Perfect for hours of home training, this fitness equipment comes fully equipped with a plethora of features including a LCD digital display, wide comfortable seat and durable rails. Boasting of high-end German engineering, this machine also has a sturdy weight capacity of 285 pounds, which is more than what you will get from same-price rower Stamina ATS Air.

This machine is manufactured by Kettler, a German company that specializes in an extensive line of reliable fitness equipment including rowers, treadmills, constrainers and exercise bikes. Since 1994, this company has quickly gained a reputation as being one of the most reliable manufacturers on the market, and has come with two top quality rowers; this model and the more expensive Kettler Kadett.

Having said that, the tools provided are extremely easy to use, even for novice users like myself. However, I did have to purchase an additional screwdriver which wasn’t included in the kit.

Comfortable Seat

I was quite impressed by the smooth, comfortable and virtually noiseless glide up the rower’s track. In fact, this machine is quiet enough for users to enjoy a nice movie during their workouts. This machine also comes with smoothly pivoting footplates for perfect positioning. The seat is raised in the rear for added comfort and resistance.

In stark contrast to other commercially-oriented rowing machines, this particular equipment actually does mirror the movements and muscles involved with a real rowboat. I quite appreciated the fact that I could very easily adjust the resistance to my liking since the controls are situated right on the arms. Resistance level on this apparatus can go up to 50 knurl marks per arm, hence challenging the body while encouraging maximum calorie consumption. In comparison to old-fashioned rowers, this model favors swinging oars on either side of the body to tone the upper arms.

Users will also appreciate the thickly padded seat that keeps discomfort at bay; an added bonus with just about any exercise equipment. Indeed, I was able to push through my usual endurance and spend several extra minutes on this machine simply because it was so comfortable to use. Top grade German-manufactured rollers are used to ensure easy rowing. The best thing about the seat is that it stands quite high up the ground which does make climbing on and off an easy task.

This item is also extremely stable and does not wobble, no matter how fast users chose to row. The machine is even equipped with a high-resolution LCD screen that displays workout data in the likes of Pulse Rate, Calories Burned, Frequency, Strokes, Distance and Time. Thanks the intelligent computer system, you will also be able to keep track of your overall improvement over the span of several weeks. Best of all, this is one of the rare rowing machines that actually monitors the heart rate and function during workouts.

An hour on this machine would yield a deficit of 300 to 500 calories, depending on the user’s gender, weight and resistance level.

Ease of Use

The rower is designed to keep the pressure off the knees and lower back which makes it quite suitable for elderly people. Since the two arms can be moved independently, users can fine tune workouts to their own pace and stamina. The sealed ball bearings situated under the seating area erase the need for any sort of lubricant and assures easy gliding. The oars are equipped with a textured surface which provides a trouble-free grip, even if your palms get sweaty.

This item is also very easy to clean: a damp washcloth with some mild detergent is more than enough to remove unruly stains across the aluminum frame. Overall, this apparatus is quite user-friendly and entirely suitable to both novice and more experienced athletes. In fact, this machine promises low impact on joints and muscles to lessen any risk of tears and aches. The oars are positioned in such a way so as to involve every single part of the body, down to the calves.

While the excellent German manufacturing provides an easy and non-slippery grip on the oars, these do take some time to loosen up which can make your workout quite strenuous in the beginning. A few customers have also reported a few issues with the assembling process and found the instruction manual quite hard to understand in spite of the numerous diagrams provided.

A couple of users reported problems with the resistance settings but this are normally related to a faulty assembly.

Overall rating

An overwhelming majority of customers claim to be extremely pleased with the Kettler Favorit in spite of the minor shortcomings. The only disadvantages lie in the assembly process and manual, but users are satisfied with the rower’s resistance level, ease of use and comfort.

All in all, this machine would suit just about anyone who is looking for a total-body workout, and for a medium-range price you would get a solid and reliable machine that lasts much longer than the other flimsy and low-quality rowers on the market. In fact when compared to other two-oar rowers on the same price range, we liked the Kettler Favorit better than the Stamina Precision, and just as much as the less-known HCI Fitness rower.
