Thanks to its magnetic resistance, the Mag Cycle offers an exceptionally smooth and quiet workout which will certainly reproduce the sensation of biking in the great outdoors. According to fitness experts, magnetic resistances have also been shown to produce visible results in a short amount of time, without causing any excessive damage or strain to the overall body. Additionally, its magnetic resistance makes this bike perfect for those that enjoy watching a movie or listening to music while exercising, as it doesn’t make the noise that characterizes other exercise bikes.

As far as the tension levels go, users will be able to select between 8 resistance settings, hence beginners will be able to start on a low difficulty level and then move up as they build strength, while the more advanced user will still find enough resistance on the bike for a decent workout. Indeed, the first tension level is light enough to provide adequate warm-up before indulging in intense training sessions while the last one has been deemed challenging enough by more experienced users.

The bike also comes with an LCD screen that allows you to track relevant fitness-related data like calories burned, workout time, speed and distance covered. This is quite a handy feature for dedicated cyclists because visual workout readings have been shown to motivate athletes while encouraging them to work out for longer periods of times.

Assembly and Parts

Since the bike comes in separate pieces, some assembly is required but this is fairly easy to do. This task, however, does require a quick read through the provided instructions manual. The booklet claimed that the assembly process would require thirty minutes, but I found that I needed around fifty minutes to an hour. On the plus side, however, most of the required tools, wrenches, knobs, screws and other parts were included in the boxed packaging. The assembly process may be time consuming but it’s also easy enough for novice users.

Ease of Use and Comfortmag cycle monitor

The Marcy Mag Cycle is intuitive enough to be used by novices without any problems even if they don’t have any previous experience with upright bikes. Most importantly, users who like to train for longer periods of times will be glad to learn that the bike sports an exceptionally comfortable saddle that is thickly padded to adapt to your body shape. The seat can also be vertically adjusted to the individual’s personal height.

The handlebars are also thickly textured, providing an easy grip without any blisters or soreness after the workout. They are designed to keep your hands from slipping, even if you get sweaty. The pedals are also counterbalanced and weighted, hence providing a stable grip. In fact, they are wide enough to accommodate different shoes and are equipped with adjustable foot straps. Also, thanks to the steel tubing and dense frame, the bike manages to remain completely stable no matter how vigorously you train.

According to some users, the LCD screen displayed quite a smallish font and couldn’t be viewed from a distance. Most of them had to pause their workouts in order to view their progress. The display console also lacks a backlit feature, hence making it hard to read your information if you’re working in a darkened room. Another user was not satisfied with the padded seat and claimed that he found the seat to be tough and uncomfortable, but this problem dissipated within the space of a few days, during which the saddle adjusted to his body shape. One last reported drawback was related to a faulty pedal but that was mainly due to a flaw during the assembly process.marcy mag cycle

Overall rating

This particular piece of equipment is certainly a solid investment for anyone who wants to indulge in a cardiovascular training session without having to pay a fortune.

We were impressed by this model’s quality, especially considering its amazingly low price. In fact, we liked it as much as the best-seller Exerpeutic 1200 as well as the newer model Marcy Upright Mag Bike. However, it is worth mentioning that the Mag Cycle is not a space-saving model, so users that live in small apartments might benefit more from a foldable upright bike such as the one mentioned before, or also the Marcy Foldable model.

The Marcy Upright Mag Cycle comes protected by a 2 year limited warranty.
